Discovered during a recent property refurbishment along with the brass ships clock also listed this week and I must confess that this cast iron wall clock is something of a mystery to me.Having searched the web for a similar clock, the only one found pictured was listed in a US auction house 5 years ago and lacked a detailed description, just simply victorian cast iron clock and estimate of $1000 !My usual maxim of "no knowledge, so no reserve" is certainly applicable here and at a starting price of less than £1 this must offer the opportunity of a true bargain to all.The clock measures 12.5"x 8" and the enamelled dial has a diameter of 3.5". Although this was ticking merrily away when found, I have dislodged the pendulum when moving it and as this is attached to what I believe is called the crutch, I have left it as it is in order not to cause any damage. Looks like a simple case of replacing the pin but as my clock knowledge is limited, is probably best left alone by me !The clock case is fascinating and well cast, featuring a crown above a helmet, an anchor, two mythical sea creatures resembling dolphins and most interestingly on a scroll, the motto of the english monarch "Dieu et mon droit" God and my right and the motto of the order of the garter "Honi soit qui mal y pense" Shamed be he who thinks ill of it, encircling the dial. read more
