NINETEENTH CENTURY MEISSEN-STYLE PORCELAIN MANTLE CLOCK This stunning porcelain mantle clock depicts a combination of mythological and Christian figures. The woman on the left is presumably Diana the Huntress, and the man staring down on the right may be intended to represent Zeus. Then t are the two seraphs, and finally the dog. The whole beautiful Rococo confection is rendered very much in the style of Meissen, both in terms of subject, its treatment, and finally the coloration in such things as the flesh tones and the gilding. This is an impressive clock that will stand proudly on any sophisticated mantle. The clock ia 16 inches tall, 9.5 inches at the widest and about 7 inches deep at the greatest depth front to back. Its intricate detail is simply divine and overall extremely well-preserved. T are a few very minor chips. The worst one is one of the horns on Diana's head is lopped off. Thre is a reddish brown whip or belt on Diana's lap with a tip in the back possibly missing -- this is impossible to notice except from behind. Finally, the lavender rose on the right of the clock has possbly two infinitesimal chips on right petals -- both invisible to the naked eye looking at the object head-on. Otherwise, I could find no chips or cracks, and the painted work and gilding remains remarkably fresh and vibrant. The clock itself read more
