A complete elaborately cast brass desk set. 6 separate components with 10 pieces. The centerpiece is the inkstand with 2 lidded wells and glass inkwells, a candle holder, a rocking blotter, a pair of scissors with scabbard, 4 large corner tabs for a desk blotter and a lidded stamp box. The condition is good but not perfect. The 3.5" corners for a blotter are in excellent condition. The stamp box has one broken hinge. The rocking blotter, which contains a shaped piece of wood and screw handle is in excellent condition with a blotter still intact. The candleholder or candlestick will hold a chunky taper and is in excellent condition. The ink stand has glass inserts which have been well used as the glass is chipped all around the rims. Constant tapping of a pen holder? The ink stand is in good condition with several of the screws replaced on the underside. The most interesting piece is the scissors and scabbard, which needs a rivet replaced. The scissors are decorated slightly differently than the rest of the set with gargoyles, rams heads and a fanciful figure on the scabbard. The casting here is softer in certain areas, as if worn by many years of constant use. The casting is excellent. This set is for the discriminating collector or executive who wants an elegant and useful antique. A marvelous gift item. More pictures available upon request. Initials found only on desk blotter tabs. The number 2232 is found on the bottom of the candleholder. If this is a patent number is would be dated 1858.
