This exquisitely hand painted, hand blown and sculpted decanter is known to be at least late 19th century European but may in fact be older. There are extremely detailed paintings of grapes, a windmill, a sailing ship and a wading bird which repeat filling the eight segment surfaces between the raised vertical hand sculpted edging dividing them. The two lovely handles were also clearly attached by hand and there appears to be detailed hand edging around the neck just below the rim and around the base of the neck where it attaches to the bulbous part of the decanter. Gold gilt highlights the paintings. Green and white flowers decorate the neck and around the top of the bulbous section. I've included a number of photographs from all sides in an attempt to accurately represent the design, quality, condition and overall beauty of this lovely antique piece. Two sections of an inch and two inches long respectively are chipped from from two of the sculpted dividing edges but otherwise this glass decanter is free of cracks or hairlines and in good very condition with the painting vibrant and intact. These chips to the edging really are noticable primarily upon close examination and do not effect the structural integrity of the decanter. The decanter stands 10 inches tall and measures 7 inches across at it's widest point. The mouth is a 1 inch opening and the width across the two handles at their widest point is 4 inches. Each hand painted glass segment is 2 inches across it's widest point. This really is a rather unique and special collectible I originally obtained through a high end estate auction in Charleston, SC. Please visit my ebay store to see the wide range of other antique and vintage collectibles including furniture I have to offer through separate auctions. I will combine shipping on multiple purchases as appropriate.
