19th Century Chinese Armorial Porcelain Tureen A Chinese armorial porcelain tureen You are bidding on a wonderful porcelain Chinese porcelain tureen, decorated in polychrome Cantonese pattern. The bowl and cover are decorated with floral and animal patterns including birds and butterflies. On the bowl in a cartouche are the initials SAM in intertwined Gothic lettering. This piece was commissioned in China for a western client in the mid 9th century. The pattern is typical of wares produced in the Canton region of China and it is not unusual to find monograms and crests on these pieces. This was part of a larger service.
