A CHARMING ANTIQUE OIL PAINTING FRENCH SCHOOL A CHARMING OIL PAINTING 19TH CENTURY "JEUNE MADAME" Circle of CESAR PATTEIN 1850-1931 NO RESERVE SALE!! Title- "Jeune Madame" Date- 19th Century Provenance- Private Collection Description- A highly decorative, later 19th Century oil painting on canvas from the close circle of Cesar Pattein (sometimes spelt Patteyn). The paint application stands upto close scrutiny and the signature has been incised in the paint when it was wet. The signature is the same as the recorded signature for this artist and the canvas measures 9.25 by 7.5 inches- a French canvas size. Condition- The painting has possibly been cleaned at some point in the past. There is a little thin paint to the hands and some craqueleur is visible. This charming piece is in reasonably good condition for its age and is ready to hang. Artist- Into a family of farmers in Steenvoorde in the north of France, Cesar Pattein was born on September 30, 1850. He first studied engraving under Guillaume Alphonse Cabasson. In 1878 he entered the Ecole des Beaux-Arts de Lille in the ateliers of Alphonse Colas, a portrait and religious scene painter born and raised in Lille, and a Mr. Bascoppet.
