Description Up for a one week auction is a stunning jasperware cheese dome in excellent condition. This piece was originally designed for holding cheese, however, this is a LARGE dome that can easily hold a cake or cheesecake. The dome (which does ring like a bell) measures 8.5" across - the platter measures 9" to hold the dome, and 11" across in full. Based on my research of this piece (and all you experts out there PLEASE feel free to let me know otherwise) I believe that this was created by Dudson Pottery of Hanley in England sometime before 1860. It is only marked with a "C" on the underside. What is so impressive of this piece is the condition - for a piece that is most likely over 150 years old it may have been shelved for some time - there are very few flaws to this piece and what issues I can see I tried to get into each photograph. There are no major chips or cracks to this piece as far as the main body. The neo-classical figures on the side are generally in excellent shape - I found some small cracks to the raised decoration up top (in pics) but those are very small - please see the cherubs on the side! As you can see from the pics there are a few random flea bite looking white specks on the cobalt blue - but they may actually be from the manufacturing process. This dome is in excellent condition and imagine having this work of art on your shelf, or better yet - imagine pulling this out at your next party! Thank you for looking, good luck and good bidding.
