About me: I have been a member on Ebay for about a year now and I've been buying many different types of antiques on Ebay, private auctions, and estate sales. I am now in the process of opening up an antique furniture and decorative arts store and I overstocked a little so now I am selling some very beautiful and extremely rare antiques and items on Ebay. As you can see, I have 100% positive feedback ratings. You can bid with confidence.
The Item: we present to you an INCREDIBLY RARE AND VALUABLE MUSEUM QUALITY 19 th century HandPainted 100% Guaranteed Authentic Meissen Plaque/Tray. The inner circumference is ornately handpainted in a colorful bouquet like garlands of various flowers of various colors and of different sizes, lending to the uniqueness of the plaque. The outer edge is decorated and adorned in a relief of heavy ornate gilting and t are 4 wave like shapes of the gilting in 4 symmetrical corners, giving it a layered quality. The most incredible part is the majority of the plaque is decorated with a handpainted stunning scene on the inside and it is as if one was entering from a window. The edge and circumference of the scene is ornately gilted with blue ribbon like designs and a basket of flowers. The view that we get is of a wealthy couple on horses with their happy servants on their villa. Also, the gorgeous scenic design is of an 18 th century German village with dogs, statues, flowers and stands, a house. The couple is exiting the scene but stops because the lady is playing with her natural surrounding, animals and the man politely stops to take off his hat to another nobleman on a horse. Perhaps they are resting in a village after a hunt, as is typical of these scenes. Even though this scene is busy, its composition is very well put together and stunning colors and design gives it a marvelous central axis and entry point from the bottom left. It is a marvelous demonstration of the happy aspect of a village with people of various classes coexisting together. Also what is very unique about this design is the 4 evergreen bushes on the inner circumference, which is something we've never seen before. This plaque is absolutely stunning and captivating. The colors and design are incredible. We've dealt for many years with Meissen and collect it ourselves but we've never come across such an amazing EXTREMELY RARE exceptional piece in such a great condition. The person from whom we acquired it, who lives in Dallas, Texas assured us it camr from Germantown Tennessee Estate of William B. Walton IV, co-founder of Holiday Inns. His home was featured in the Jul/Aug 1971 issue of Architectural Digest. We believe it because such a piece should be a part of such an avid household. It can be displayed as a tray or on a wall as a charger. It is truly incredible. It is truly museum quality! Blue crossed swords as pictured, circa 1830. On the backside t is also incised # and impressed number (maker number) either 24 or something of that sort. This treasure measures a grand 17" x 12". It is in excellent condition.
