You are bidding on a pristine Pink Sundlerand Lustre Pitcher in an unusual rare tall form. This piece stands 8" high with a 5" opening to the spout. It has absolutely no chips, cracks, crazing, hairlines, or repairs of any kind and would be a stunning addition to any collection of Lustreware or early ceramics. The transferware is crisp and bright with a Three Mast British Clipper Ship in full sail, flying the Union Jack on one side with a cartouched inscription below that reads "May Peace and Plenty On our Nation Smile and Trade with Commerce Blefs the British Isle". On the opposite side is the touching poem "The Sailor's Tear" that reads "He leap'd into the boat, As it lay upon the strand; But, Oh! his heart was far away, With friends upon the land, He thought of those he lov'd the best, A wife and infant dear; And feeling fill'd the sailor's breast, The sailor's eye--a tear." Every word on this beautiful script is clear and clean with no discoloration or fading. The poem is surrounded by a garland of trailing vines, leaves, grapes and morning glories and crowned by a small sailboat above. The entire pitcher is covered with a deep mottled pink lustre that has retained it's original glaze and sheen. The pink lustre continues on the interior, the spout and the handle, another unusual feature. Pictures do not do this piece justice! Advanced collectors will appreciate that early Pink Sunderland Lustre in this condition is extremely rare! Don't miss this opportunity to add this MINT Condition piece to your collection. The winning bidder will not be disappointed. Low Starting Price and VERY Reasonable reserve! Please feel free to e-mail me with any questions. Good Luck and Happy Bidding!
Just wanted to add that t is one small area on the underside of the jug that looks whitish approximately the size of a quarter. This does not detract from the piece at all as it is only visible on the bottom.
