Here's an honest to goodness barn find! It's a completely untouched wooden butter churn up for bids without reserve. Loaded with character, it's constructed of pine staves and forged iron bands that keep it tight and secure. It's complete with its original carved and fitted splash cover as well as a dasher. The cover has a single handle that adds some folksy charm This old churn spent generations stashed away and it has a wonderfully aged patina complete with remnants of old blue paint. It has a fabulous, weathered look and shows plenty of wear from use. Every stain, mark, blemish, notch, and residue are clues to its past history. This churn has a genuine primitive design with loads of country style. Including the dasher stick, it measures 30 1/2 inches high; without it, the churn is about 24 1/2 inches tall. The top has a diameter that measures 6 1/4 inches and then the churn widens out toward the bottom where it measures 8 1/4 inches across. The cover fits perfectly and helped to keep the cream from splashing out during the churning process. Solid, rugged, and sound, there are no problems with dry rot, termites, or active woodworms. More than a century old, this as-found churn that would display well in a kitchen, on a fireplace hearth, or among other country antiques.
