19th Century Redware Batter Pitcher with Manganese Glaze This very nice pitcher has the lovely brown "splotches" that are characteristic of mid to late 1800's redware pottery. The piece has the anticipated crazing in the glaze with some glaze loss around the top and inside of the rim. The pictures make it appear that t may be some dulling around the bottom portion ... this is a reflection and I can assure you that the glaze is consistent over the surface. T is some slight, what appears to be, surface scratching around the widest part that would result from years of handling. It may even polish out in some areas, although I have left it as I purchased it. T are a few surface lines on the bottom (see photo) but they are only very superficial in nature. I have included a picture of the inside bottom of the piece and t are no cracks inside. The handle is well attached with no cracking. This is a very nice pitcher and is still very serviceable if you chose to use it, although I would consider it quite collectable. I have not seen another batter pitcher like this. The dimensions are Height 6 3/4" Base Width 5 5/8" Width @ widest part 7" Inside Opening 3 7/8" Width @ the Top 5 - 5 1/4" Handle Width 1 1/4" Please email me with any questions prior to bidding. I ask that the winning bidder contact me, prior to making payment, so that I can give the exact shipping cost ... this is fair to both of us ! T is a reserve on this piece and this is a 10 day auction GOOD LUCK !!! |
