This is an original 19 th Century Banquet Lamp. It had been electrified on two occasions because you can see the openings for the electrical cord - one on the base and the other on the collar above the hand painted sleeve. It has not affected the lamp because it still operates as an oil lamp. It has a gilded or gold painted iron base, with some gilding missing. The base supports a cylindrical widening multi-sided milk glass sleeve, hand painted with a butterfly, flowers and leaves. This supports a gold painted top and brass collar. This supports a beautiful patterned glass font, which has a few bubbles in it. The brass burner knob is signed: "SCOVILL MFG.CO. MADE IN USA" and the burner is signed: "NO. 2 - QUEEN ANN " and also "22". The brass collar supports an original, heavily decorative old fitted clear glass acid etched, flared shade with designs which include stars and ribbons, flowers and leaves. T is a clear chimney inside the shade. The lamp measures approximately 23 inches high, 8 ¼ inches width of the shade, and 5 inches width of the base. Besides what was mentioned above about the openings for previous electrical cords, the lamp is in very good condition, with no apparent cracks, chips or repairs. This beautiful 19 th Century Banquet lamp would make a welcomed addition for a collection/display/use!
