Five day auction for an antique G. Tiemann 19th century surgical set/amputation kit. Surgeon's tools and instruments are in a red velvet lined mahogany wood box with outer brass trim. Twenty-five surgical tools and instruments are inside the red velvet lined box with a pull out velvet separator. Mohogany box measures 16.25" long x 6" wide x 3.5" deep. T are 25 tools and instruments in this kit and clearly a few are missing. Most notably the large saw is missing. T are other empty places w tools used to fit. Sixteen of the tools are stamped with a manufacture name. Most of the tools are stamped Tiemann. A few I can't read the stamp marks due to the tiny print. The key looking tool is marked C. Truax & Co. Some of the stamp marks I can not read may be also read C. Truax & Co. Nine of the tools have no stamp mark at all. I believe the cloth belt with buckle and brass set screw was used as a tourniquet. Tourniquet is stamped Tiemann on brass. None of these tools were cleaned in any way. Some blades show tarnishing. One pointed tool with black handle has a bend metal ring just above handle. Not sure what the black handles are made of. Five of the black handles could possibly be ebony. Box has an unknown white stain on one inside top and bottom edge (shown on left inside edge on open box). T is some tarnish on the brass trim on outer box. read more
