This beautiful basalt bust of Sir Walter Scott, famous for his swashbuckling novels such as Ivanhoe and Rob Roy . Judging from the exquisite detail and the "mustache marks" on the socle, this rendition was probably done in the early part of the 19th century. The bust is 8¼" high and 6" across the shoulders. It is in outstanding condition with particular fine detailing in the head and tartan cloak around Scott's shoulders. Impressed "WEDGWOOD", and mustache marks on the underside of the socle, "SCOTT" on the base of the bust at the rear, and "WEDGWOOD" higher on the bust just under the head.
