up for auction is an "19th Century "Honesty is the Best Policy" Toleware Oval Tin Box"
measures - 6-1/2" L x 3-3/4" W x 1-1/8" H
weight 6.9 oz.
circa 1850's-1870's
this little two piece hand painted and decorated oval toleware tin is in untouched, as found condition...
no paint touch-ups, or enhancements!
it has a Pennsylvania feel to it...
and its made of a heavy gauge tin, or light gauge metal...
it is decorated in red paint and gold/bronze gilt, has a Pitcher, a Goblet, and Wheat on the top...
and the most wonderful saying! "Honesty is the Best Policy"
its banding is held together with a wrought rivet...
it looks like it has been varnished over through the years, a long time ago...
the top is a press fit...
i would say the condition is very good for its age...
with some edge wear as expected...
