For sale is this very rare antique 19th Century Persian Qajar Hookah Top. This is the part of the hookah where the tobacco would be placed and back then coal would be placed on top of the tobacco, unlike nowadays where the coal is placed on a think layer of foil protecting the tobacco.I have shown this to a specialist and he dates it from the mid 1800's during the Qajar Empire. This hookah top consists of two parts - a solid silver part and and body made from clay/pottery. The specialist guarantees the solid silver is genuine Qajar period silver but the body he said he is unsure and may of been added or replaced at a later date - though it looks fairly old. The silver has been four designs which are the same - a bird standing on a branch of a tree. You can see this design on many of the items I sell and it is a typical old Persian designs symbolising the birds of paradise amongst tree of life - two concepts combined in one - such a charming item full of character!!!The clay body of the hookah top also has simple yet beautiful designs carved into in centre of it as well - please see all photos below.I cannot stress how rare an item like this is. The photos do this no justice at all !!!The hookah top (silver part) is unmarked but has been tested and is GUARANTEED SOLID SILVER . Genuine old Persian silver was usually unmarked. Silver read more
