19THC ANTIQUE ADVERTISING MUG CUP, POTHS PHILA BREWERY Interesting and old earthenware pottery mug with color transfer print advertising, c.1890. Â The sepia toned print shows one side of the building with a Poth's & Schmidt's Beer sign, and the other side with Schmidt's & Poth's Beer.
Between the transposed company names is a sign for Booth Bros Bottlers. Â The blue sky area and rims are hand painted. Â The base is impressed marked Germany, as well as two unidentified factory marks.
Research turned up that the original Poth's & Schmidt's Brewery was located at 3306-3316 Arch St. Philadelphia , Pennsylvania in what is called Brewerytown.  Now a historic Philadelphia Landmark which conducts tours, the enormous red-brick Poth warehouse has a new beer business under the name of Red Bell.
Measures 3 3/4" height.  Original condition; NO repairs.  T is a tight small hairline and nick at the rim which extends about an inch downward (detail 4th photo), and glaze crazing.  I am offering a second advertising mug this week so please check out other listings. Â
