Fresh Texas Estate Find! I had purchased this from a local friend who had just gotten back from her home state of Texas, getting her elderly parents estate in order.. She had found this amongst their old things stored in the attic but knows no history of it..? Definately of the civil war era right down to the original frame! It is an original oil on board and is unsigned. It had been behind glass which was quite dirty so it was difficult to tell condition of painting initially, but after removing the glass I was relieved to see it was far better (glass was not replaced as oil paintings are not in need of it and it dulls the presentation of piece anyway). Condition of painting is good for its age. No major paint loss or peeling.. Some light fading mostly about the jacket area with all else being minor. Period frame is quite nice with only one crack in it that appears to have been filled at some point so pretty stable.. Measures approx 22 3/4"h x 20"w framed, 17" x 14" w/out frame. The coloring and detail of this gentleman's face is quite masterful! Nice 1800's oil painting being sold with a no reserve so please view the photos and ask any questions you may have prior to bidding so all goes smoothly..
