19thC Antique Primitive Folk Art Coffee Grinder Mill NR

19thC. ANTIQUE PRIMITIVE FOLK ART DECORATIVE BRASS BOSSES Up for this ten-day auction is this wonderful antique primitive handmade and decorated coffee grinder. The dovetail-jointed maple wood box is emblazoned on all sides and on top with sixty-two decorative brass bosses in symmetrically placed patterns. The case and brass hopper stand 7" high with a total height of 10 3/4" to the top of the wooden knob on cast iron handle. The top ledge measures 5 1/2" square, bottom ledge is 5 1/4" square, with the body of the case 4 1/2" square. The brass-studded drawer, also dovetailed, is 4 1/2' inches long and 3 3/4" wide and 1 5/8" deep. It has a cast iron drawer pull. T is a small age crack in the bottom of the drawer. The handle still cranks and works. After a thorough search, I could not find a maker's mark, but t may have been a metal seal on the front that had been removed. T are no missing brass bosses. I have not cleaned or tinkered with it. All the original dirt, grime and wear & tear is t for all to see, even the fingerprints on the drawer from so long ago. This is truly a one-of-a-kind piece; The 62 strategically placed brass bosses set this coffee grinder apart from others of its kind, and elevate this piece to a higher level of Folk Art.
