Unusual and somewhat mysterious, antique cast brass or bronze figure of a pregnant (or nursing) lioness with rear feet atop a bearded man's head. Appears to be a handle or finial of some kind. Very nice casting with intricate detail and character. Well developed patina with surface wear commensurate with age and use. T are two lines with series of letters and numbers stamped into the back of the face-plate, which appear to read: "BIN (or BW) 378A" and "B864". Excellent condition with no losses damage or repairs. Looks Continental in origin but could be early American. I'd estimate age to be mid-19th Century (c.1850), or older.
Length = 6 3/4" (17 cm.) Check out my other items !
