I have for sale another Eastlake Aesthetic Ebonized Victorian Gilt picture frame. This is called a "shadowbox" as it has four layers of wood (see pic.). This frame measures 13" by 15." and is 4 deep. The picture area is 8" by 10". T is gilt around the picture area, then an ebonized layer with incised carving, then another gilt layer , an edge of walnut, a slim ebonized layer and then the top layer of walnut. The frame is in excellent condition for well over 100 years old and has not been touched up at all from what I can see. T is oxidation that you see in old gilt but very little . The glass is very old and wavy with the marks of old glass and no cracks or hairlines. The back is the original wood (see pic.) The photo is of Rhea and Thelma Young of Utica New York. It is charming. The little girl has a big white bow in her hair. I think the photo is later than the frame, most likely from around 1918 or so. The matte is original. When I found this frame the picture was of an old man with a beard. Fine looking gentleman but I replaced him and added the "girls" for a better effect. T are actually two parts to the matte, an inner oval with gold edge and then the outer piece without decoration. The photo has a signature at the bottom but I cannot make it out.
