I have never seen a frame quite like this before! Stunning double CDV (Carte de Visite) frame. Heavy at almost 3 pounds, it is clearly marked STERLING SILVER and FILLED on the front lower right. Incredibly ornate, with an angel partially draped in heavenly garb looking over two cherubs, one of which is holding a butterfly on its extended finger. Flowers, more butterflies and fruit further decorate this bucolic scene. The frame is backed against a wonderful Victorian purple velvet. As you can see, the filled sterling silver frame is quite thick at 1/2 inch, accounting for the weight of this frame. Overall size of this frame is 13x10 inches. The size of the photo openings are 4.25 x 5.5 inches at the back and 3.25 x 5 inches at front. Condition is MINT, absolutely no damage or wear. When you look at the back and peer into the frame, you can see the small spots w the brass (I believe) was poured into the silver.
