Antique Whitby Jet Faceted Graduated Large Bead 26" Necklace This antique circa 1880 necklace is made of exquisitely hand-carved Whitby jet faceted oval beads in graduated sizes that make a strand of approximately 26". The largest oval bead is 3/4" long and 5/8" in diameter. The beads graduate down neatly in size to the back where one-half of the barrel clasp is knotted to the end bead on the other side. The necklace can be restrung with another type of clasp without much effort as the string is unknotted.As is typical of this material, the jet beads have slightly irregular hand-faceting, a soft polish, and light weight. Total weight of the strand is approximately 32 Grams.
