Belcher in many ways laid the foundations for the Founding Fathers of the Revolution This Manuscript documents Jonathan Belcher's appointment of Benjamin Lynde Jr as a judge of the Essex County Interior Court of Common Pleas. This is an early appointment for Lynde who like his Father would go on to become Chief Justice. As Chief he would preside over one on the most influential cases in American legal history "The Boston Massacre Trial". Governor Jonathan Belcher (1682-1757). One of the most influential and fascinating men of his time, a descendant of American's Puritan pilgrims he went on to become one of the most important men in Colonial history.
