Out-Of-Doors in the Holy Land/Impressions of Travel in Body and Spirit by Henry Van Dyke...Illustrated. Charles Scribners & Sons 1908 New York 1st edition. Hardcover bound in gilt- decorated blue cloth in the Art Nouveau style. The front board bears the title, the author's name, and a pomegranate and floral design stamped in gilt, green, and red. The boards are crisp and clean and the gilt work is still gleaming and bright. Book is crisp and strong, and the spine strip is strong and tight. Mild bumping to corners and head and tail of spine with white tipping (this is the only reason I do not call this "near fine). Condition:Very Good +. Top edge gilt. Front edge of pages deckled. Mild age toning to pages. Light scuff on rear endpaper. The text block is unmarked, clean, and crisp throughout. The book is illustrated with 12 handsome, color plates, all present and all in superb condition. The frontispiece and protective tissue are intact, clean, and sharp. All in all, this is an excellent, remarkably bright copy of a classic Victorian travelogue through Mandate Palestine and Greater Syria. The illustrations are by Harry Fenn.
