You are bidding on a First Edition The Master Mind of Mars by Edgar Rice Burroughs published by A.C. McClurg & Co.. in 1928. The Master Mind of Mars is the sixth in a series of 11 Mars books published by Burroughs. This series is one of the most popular in Science Fiction history, and will be reaching theaters in 2012 with a new Disney/Pixar film telling telling the story of John Carter, the incomparable Dejah Thoris, Carter's loyal friend Tars Tarkas and their adventures on Mars. Dark Horse Comics is currently releasing the comics of the 1950s and 1970s in book form, and Dynamite had a current Warlord of Mars comic in release. There is a great deal of interest in John Carter of Mars items at the moment, and it will only increase as the release of the movie approaches.
This book is a true first edition with all markers present. This website is helpful in identifying true first editions: /mpv-html/m6.asp. As they state, only 5,000 copies of this first edition were printed, so it a particularly rare find. .The cover is orange with black lettering. The cover has minor wear on edges, but has no stains or blemishes The book has slight edge wear, but is in very good condition with strong binding and no fading or marks. There are light pencil marks with "1st. 300" showing the original price I paid for this book a few years ago. I include a reproduction cover for this specific edition which has a value of 50 dollars itself. The book has been carefully handled and kept in protective plastic cover as long as I've owned it. I intended to hang on to them until after the film's release, but for financial reasons I need to sell them now.
