~1st GEN Speak & Spell Math and Read ALL 3 Work +Manuals~ Up for auction here is a Speak & Spell, Speak & Read and Speak & Math by Texas Instruments. � They are all in great working order and condition, and they each come with their original manual. In addition a super stumpers word module for speak & spell (grades 6-8) is included with its original manual and a plug-in earphone. � The Speak & Spell is a first generation, 1978-79 push button model in red, with tin cover plate. The Speak & Read (yellow) and Speak & Math (grey) are both from early 1980s when they first came out. � They have a different type of touch keyboard. They each require 4 C Batteries, which are not included. � They are a single owner set, each was received direct from Texas Instruments, and are very clean and presentable. � These are excellent educational toys and they also make great pieces for circuit bending. � According to Wikipedia "The Speak & Spell used the first single-chip voice synthesizer, the TMC0280, later called the TI� TMS5100, which utilized a 10th-order� linear predictive coding� (LPC) model by using pipelined electronic� DSP� logic....Speech synthesis data (phoneme data) for the spoken words were stored on a pair of 128 Kbit metal gate PMOS ROMs. 128 Kbit was, at the time the largest capacity ROM in the late 1970s.
