MUSEUM QUALITY EARLY ANTIQUE MEGRI PRAYER RUG, West Anatolia, 1st half of the 19th century or earlier, and now museum mounted and conserved. The exact size is: 4'-2" x 6'-1" (127 x 186 cm). A very early Megri Prayer Rug (Seccade) sewn to a neutral cloth backing for the sake of posterity. Fantastic, glowing colors. A rare museum quality weaving for the collector, presently prepared for a wood-framed display stretcher or usable as is for a wall hanging. Megri (Greek: Makri) is the old name of a town on the southern coast of Turkey opposite the island of Rhodes, which in 1923 received the name Fethiya. Rarely do old prayer rugs of this ilk surface on the markets. The design is classic to the type with a blue field containing an ascending, flowering, tree-of-life motif with gold floral mihrab spandrels all within a colorful multiple (5) border surround scheme. When displayed on the wall, this ancient textile relic exudes richness and is breathtaking to look at. Just a very super artistic statement to behold. If you have any questions at all about this early antique Turkish Megri Prayer Rug, only email Michael Phillips at: or feel free to call my studio phone number at: .
