STARTS AT JUST $9.99 and LISTED WITH NO RESERVE PRICE. AN EARLY ANTIQUE YOMUD GROUP "Kepse-Gul" TURKOMAN SMALL SIZE MAIN TENT CARPET, Central Asian Tribal, Turkmenistan, 1st Half of the 19th Century, and coming in fair condition for the collector. The exact size is: 3'-10" x 5'-9" (117 x 175 cm). Although coming in abused condition, this was still an exciting find for me. The small format, with only three complete "kepse-guls", that are spaciously drawn on the purple/red/brown field, combined with elem panels displaying two different design motif themes, give this weaving an "air" of great age. Note the different design sequence used for the bottom main border, as compared to the top and side borders. Another unusual aspect is the combined use of camel-hair wefts, dyed red, and natural ivory, undyed, cotton (see photo # 10 for just two of the areas). The warps are natural grey wool. Woven with 100% natural dyes including a light blue and yellow-gold found on other early Yomud-family group weavings published in the rug book literature. This carpet is a Turkmen specialist collector piece that shows age use damage to the sides, ends, and field. It has some stains on the field, front and back, that may be old paint and the rug is dusty. A professional cleaning is recommended. It is fresh to the market having been sourced in Turkmenistan. read more
