Smithsonite San Francisco Mine, Mexico
2 x 1 1/2 x 1 1/4 inches This auction is for a beautiful specimen of bubbly botryoidal blue-green Smithsonite from Mexico. This is not the usual Choix, Sinaloa Smithsonite, but is from a small new find in the San Francisco Mine, long known for great Wulfenites. A must have new locale for a collection of Smithsonites, a great, colorful addition to any cabinet! Smithsonite is zinc carbonate, with a formula of ZnCO 3. It is named for James Smithson (1765-1829), founder of the Smithsonian Institution. Smithsonite is an ore of zinc.
