2 Chinese Export Rose Medallion 9 5/8" Plates
-circa 1870- One of the most impressive features of these plates is the color and detail in the birds and butterflies. The gradient of light and dark blue, as well as sharp separation of other colors like green, yellow, black and reds, and even the colors in the birds' beaks are all superb. The gilding does show some scratches, but very little of it is worn off overall. T is a small firing flaw in one plate near the feet of one of the characters in a Mandarin scene, but it is of minimal impact (it appears in the close-up photo, near the very bottom, just left of center, in the orange floor area near the character's foot). Both plates measure about 9 5/8" in diameter and are proportionally very close, making it a very nice 2 piece set. These plates come from an antique shop in the oldest antique district in the United States.
