Lot of 2 unused Civil War patriotic covers, including 1 with a scarce Confederate design. Includes: 1) Blue illustration of the South Carolina Palmetto flag, with a banner above, reading: "SOUTHERN INDEPENDENCE ", and with caption below : "WE WILL DEFEND IT WITH OUR LIVES AND FORTUNES .". 2 small holes on face of cover, away from design, with part of back cut away, and likely used to make the inside repairs of the holes so that they are not so noticeable. A scarce Confederate design, likely of Northern manufacture. 2) Blue illustration of a secessionist in the water, praying to a man who is in a "UNION" boat and holding a Union flag above the man, with caption below : "Secesh - 'Oh; Bro. Jonathan, do let me in your boat or I will sink.' ". Some wrinkling, and old mounting remnants on the back.
