are a pair of Dunhill pipes I purchased about a year ago. My first Dunhills! I had read about them and wanted to see how they smoked! I was impressed. They seem to draw easier than other pipes I have owned, and they are a pleasure to smoke. The larger of the two (please see photo with the little ruler in it) is a Root Briar. On one side of the pipe it reads 3103, next to Dunhill, which is written inside a circle. Again, please see photos. I have done the best closeups I can! The other side reads ROOT BRIAR above Made In England. A small 01 appears after England.

The second pipe, smaller than the first, was a bit more of a mystery to decipher, as it is the older of the two and some of the stamped information is rubbed away from age. Also on one side, it is double stamped! Making it harder to read also. One one side it says Dunhill above London. To the left of that is the letter A. I did a little research and believe that A is good news! One website I consulted said this: Types of finish:
1) Bruyere -introduced in 1910; signified by an "A" (meaning' best quality) on the side of the shank through 1975. "Inner Tube" stamped on shank through 1934.

So that A means best quality! The other side is double stamped Made in England, above a patent number. To the right of these we have what looks to me like a small 3 above a 34 to the right of that is a larger 86. My researched website said: Dating of Bruyere and Root finishes - 1925 onwards

So, as far as I can guess, this Bruyere pipe is best quality "A" and may have been made between the years of 1942 to 1950. If that is so, then this little pipe is well over 50 years old. It has a few tooth marks on the mouthpiece. Please refer to the photo.

You Dunhill connoisseurs reading all of this will know exactly what we have , better than I, but that is the best I can do for you. What I can say for certain is that these are two lovely pipes that smoke very well and will give you great enjoyment!
