2 "FREE-STANDING" DACHSHUND CARDS, & DOXIE MAGNET - The 2 doxie cards w/ envelopes are blank (note cards) and measure approx. 6-1/2 " long by 4-1/14 to 4-5/8" tall (one card a little bigger than the other), the magnet (no photo attached) measures 4" long x approx. 2-1/4" tall and is identical to the doxie card on the left. Proceeds from this auction will be put towards Louie's vet bill. On 10/26/06 an e-mail was received from Louie's (also known as Louis) foster mom Donna telling me that Louis was at the vet school in Gainesville fighting for his life... the night before he started having problems breathing and refused to lay down. At first the vet thought that it might be an upper respiratory infection but after doing x-rays Louis was rushed to the emergency vet clinic w he was put on oxygen. After more x-rays and blood work Donna was told that he had a hernia in his diaphragm and his intestines & liver were being pushed through to his throat - - basically his intestines are supposed to be toward the back of his body and some were right under his neck!! - - no wonder he couldn't breathe! - - surgery was required to save his life. Vets said these types of injuries (a diaphragmatic hernia) were usually seen when a dog has been kicked or hit by a car. Since he was abused and neglected by his previous owners his condition just progressively got worse and when he jumped off the couch the other night it must of been the straw that broke the camel's back - - immediate surgery was required. Louie remained in the hospital in ICU and would remain t for a few days - was wrapped in all kinds of dressings and had tubes coming out of everyw (see 2nd photo of Louie). During the surgery they found that all of his organs were in his chest and his lungs were compressed; they took pressures every few hours and were going to do blood work and chest x-rays every morning. When he saw Donna after surgery, his little tail wagged and he gave her kisses. (I don't know the cost of the surgery BUT his oxygen was $300 per day.) Louie went home Sunday (10/29) The surgeon said that his condition rates in his top 12 most critical cases and up toward the top of his most successful surgeries. Bless his little heart, he is stapled from his neck down to his bottom. Things seem to be progressing nicely for Louis and he is adjusting and healing. Of course Louis has a lot of healing to do and whether or not his hernia will stay repaired (since it's an old injury) is still unknown. However, he's home to begin a new journey in life. All were impressed with his strength and will to live and that he should live a long and happy life! Check out Louie's beautiful eyes in the 1st photo.
