PAIR OF GORHAM STERLING SILVER FEDERAL STYLE TALL CANDLE STICK HOLDERS REPRODUCTION CIRCA 1784 PLEASE be certain to read our complete description, look at our pictures and review our policies before bidding! We are very pleased to offer you this rare opportunity to own a magnificent pair of Gorham Federal style tall candlestick holders! This is a family heirloom that comes from the family estate of self-made millionaire, James Joseph Phelan. Mr. Phelan was a member of Hornblower and Weeks, a well-renowned brokerage and banking firm out of Boston Massachusetts. He was born of Irish descent in 1871 and we believe, died in 1934. One of Mr. Phelan's clients was the upscale retail store of Shreve, Crump and Low Company that continues to this day to specialize in expensive merchandise, including silver. It is from this firm the family purchased these exquisitely designed candle holders. We are also listing a Gorham low 3 branch candelabra that is from this estate. Please look at this unusual item. Both the candelabra and candlestick holders are very hard to find and will make a wonderful addition to your collection. DESCRIPTION These oval based, fan designed candle holders are cement weighted. These date to 1941 and are clearly marked on the bottoms with the Gorham anchor. These were made to replicate candlesticks that were used around the late 1700s. They are marked REPRODUCTION CIRCA 1784. The initials P. P. are also engraved on the bottoms. We believe these may be the initials of the original owner. Shreve, Crump & Low Co. is engraved along the rim of the base of both holders. The oval shape is carried through from the base to the top of wax catchers. T is a beaded design that trims the base, upper mid section and the wax catcher along with a chain like pattern that compliments the beads. MAKER: Gorham SIZE (Aprox) : 11 ¾" tall 6 ½" x 5" at oval base AGE: 66 Years old - 1941 CONDITION: Very Good - no signs of repairs - Under direct light we noticed 2 very minor dings (pinhead sized) on one of the candlesticks. At first glance they appear to be tarnish spots. One stick has some residual wax in the holder. These are both in need of polishing. Please look at our other listings of unusual collectibles.
