Check out this rare, real deal and highly collectible 2 Notched 3/4" Cahokia Arrowhead made from a slice of Burlington Chert and found in a farm field adjacent to the Cahokia Mounds in Madison Co., IL. This is out of the 1940s-50s personal collection of Delmont Pearson and has a slick patina, gorgeous flaking, and a needle tip. It is also extremely thin. Mr. Pearson had the privilege of walking fields that are no longer accessible to artifact hunters. Mississippian in era (1,000-600 B.P.) this artifact comes from an old collection with accurate provenance. On top of that, this type of Cahokia arrowhead is documented and pictured in P.F. Titterington's 1938 book "The Cahokia Mound Group and Its Village Site Materials". You're not going to believe this, but Overstreet says on page 707 of his 10th edition book that a point like this one should list in the neighborhood of 800.00-1,500.00 because it was found on a Cahokia Mounds Site. Not many authentic Cahokias floating around eBay (watch out for the fakes!) these days. Better snap it up for your Midwest collection! Please read on for more information on the mysterious Cahokian culture. The Cahokia Mounds in St. Clair Co., Illinois continue to be a mystery 700-some years after being vacated by the Native American peoples who built them. Cahokia was the largest city ever built north of Mexico before Columbus and boasted 120 earthen mounds, 80 of which still stand today. In recognition of its importance in the history of humankind, Cahokia has been designated a World Heritage site, a distinction it shares with the Great Wall of China and India's Taj Mahal. Much of this archealogical treasure remains buried and protected although many artifacts were harvested both legally and illegally for over 300 years. You can read an extensive article on the history of what we do know /wp-srv/national/daily/march/12/cahokia.htm though t is much more that we don't know about this intriguing culture and its people. The artifact up for auction comes from the personal collection of the late Delmont Pearson, who surface hunted between the 1930s and the 1970s in cultivated farm fields very close to the Cahokia Mounds. Authentic relics from this region are increasingly hard to come by as the State of Illiinois has bought many personal collections and many others have been acquired by museums. The current ground swell of interest in the Cahokian culture and history is driving up the value of authentic Cahokian Mound arrowheads and other artifacts. Don't miss the opportunity to own a piece of the mystery that is Cahokia Mounds. This is a verified find and guaranteed to be authentic. I offer a 14 day money-back return with no questions asked.
