SET of 2 Paul McCobb PLANNER GROUP Spindleback Chairs Very Early, One Owner Just acquired. Part of a table and 6 chair set. Two Paul McCobb designed, spindle back dining chairs. These came with a round dining table with one leaf. The table is marked Winchenden Furniture. The two chairs offered and the other 4 that came with the set are unmarked but are unmistakably and guaranteed to be McCobb. They were purchased in the mid 1950's and used everyday by the family. Manufactured in Winchenden, MA by Winchenden Furniture. Winchenden Furniture also made and sold the Planner Group and Calvin lines of McCobb designed furniture. These are a very early example of McCobb. Without the usual foil label or Planner Group brand. We have sold numerous pieces of McCobb, the earliest being his iconic desk with the single bank of drawers and the tapered angled legs which was just marked Winchenden Furniture. This chair set and the table they came with is even earlier.( The extension mechanism on the table is marked Jefferson Table products Co. on the side that attaches to the underside of the table and can be seen only when the table is open. ) The chairs each measure 17" wide x 19.5" deep x 31.5" high. The seat height is 17". The saddle seat is 17.5 inches deep. I believe the finish color is called Tobacco. The chairs ( and the table ) are made of solid maple boards that are glued and formed. No veneers. The maple is straight grained, curly and bird's eye maple that form a very nice pattern. The legs are tenoned and splined and add a nice architectural detail. The two chairs offered are in excellent condition. They both show wear to the finish on the seat and back rail. otherwise for 50 year old everyday furniture these are in exceptional condition. All joints are tight. These are being offered as is. If unsold we will be having these chairs stripped and refinished in just a clear maple that is the more commonly seen finish for McCobb pieces.
