PAIR ANTIQUE BRASS LIGHT SHADE HOLDERS PATENTED 1905.These two shade holder are each 1 1/2" tall by 2 3/8" across the base and 1 3/4" across the top. These shade holders will hold a glass shade with a 2 3/8" neck. The shade holders will attach to a standard sized electric socket with screw threads; t are screw threads on the inside of the shade holders. These shade holders have a row of holes which go around the holder. The holes would let the hot air--generated by the light bulb inside the glass shade--escape. These are unusual, early shade holders. Most shade holders use brass bolts to attach the indented edge of the glass shade within the holder. These use a wire "gizmo" which can be pushed in and out of position--tightening and releasing the shade as needed. On the outside of the shade holder, just above the "gizmo", is written "PATENTED JUNE 27 '05 MADE IN U.S.A." This can be seen with a loupe. For anyone restoring an old fixture, this is a great chance to use hard to find original shade holders. The condition of these shade holders is excellent. The "gizmo" slides back and forth easily and a shade can be securely held in positiion. They have a wonderful patina. Email with any questions.
