Unbelievable find from a "Living" veteran of the 82nd Airborne 505th PIR! This map and many many more were saved by this veteran for the last 62 years. Never before have these been in a collection! This veteran was a Sergeant by the end of the war and had been involved in every action of the 82nd starting in North Africa, Italy, D-Day, Market Garden, Ardennes, Battle of the Bulge & Germany. This auction is for 2 maps that are titled: " Vielsalm North & Vielsalm South ". Both have the GSGS number of: 4041. This was published by the 654th Engineers and dated December 10th, 1944(shortly before the Battle of the Bulge). The area of Vielsalm is part of the St. Vith region which was defended by the 82nd Airborne during the Bulge. Shown on these maps is Trois Pont w Lt. Col. Ben Vandervoot commanded the 505th, 2nd Battalion and led the defense of the Brigehead t on the Salm River against the elite forces of the German Wehrmacht. For the historian of 82nd Airborne engagements you will find on the Vielsalm North map: Trois Pont, Grand Halleux, Arbrefontaine, Basse-Bodeux & Henumont. On the Vielsalm South map you will find: Vielsalm, The Salm River, Salm-Chateau, Burtonville, Beho, Regne, Their-du-Mont & Bovigny. This map has a 1 inch rip on the outside edge of the map.
