What you are bidding on The coins in this auction are typical silver bullion coins: each are 1 troy ounce of .999 silver eagles; they've spent the bulk of their life in a plastic container seeing minimal handling and were only removed to examine the contents. This auction is for a total of 20 coins. Some things you probably know about Silver Silver has industrial uses in addition to its use as currency creating a potential for more scarcity. Bullion is a better choice than rare coins as rare coins are considered collectibles and are taxed at a much higher rate. Some things you probably don't know about Silver In researching what happened in Germany during their period of hyperinflation, Gold stocks increased in value 1,000 percent or 10 times their original value. However, holders of the metal itself did much better: they saw a return of roughly 40,000 percent or 400 times their original investment. I did not see a figure for the return on silver, but silver has historically tracked with Gold at a rate of 17:1. At the moment Silver is trading at roughly 60:1 suggesting a buying opportunity even if the yellow metal doesn't move at all.To my knowledge silver has never been seized by a government; I can't say the same for gold.
