20 post Civil War, National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers buttons. Listed in Albert's as VN 50a. Cuff size buttons measuring about 5/8" across. Originally, Civil War volunteers were not eligible for help in any of the regular veterans' organizations. In 1865, President Lincoln signed an Act which allowed volunteers to receive aid from the National Asylum. In 1873, the National Asylum was renamed the National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers. The Home closed in 1930. Backmarks are one " STEEL & JOHNSON " and 19 " NATIONAL HOME D.V.S.". Please view photos for the best description. S/H will be $2.00 to the US.
