Incredible hand carved Cigar Store Indian, carved out of a solid block of hardwood. Ornate carving in mint shape!Vibrant colors, great piece. This was stored in a box at my Uncle's house. In the 30-50's he and my Grandfather had a cigar/cigarette shop in Queens, NY.He did have products in his hands and they were changed as new cigars came in {they had Cuban Cigars then}Once Cigar stores found their Indians were being vandalized, a smaller version to be shown in the window was created. These were the days when people did not paste and stick, he is carved from one block of hardwood. I tried to show the bottom, Ebay would not let me, but you can see the puncture hole he was put on for the carving, and the hardwood is two toned. The unbelievable thing to me is that the paint has not chipped or faded. On the back, on his feathers, you can see small wear marks from being in a box that was shuffled around. Does not effect the appearance at all. I do not think these come along very often.
