The American Eagle Gold Proof Coins are collector versions of the official United States Mint American Eagle Gold Bullion Coins and are available in limited mintage in four sizes - one-ounce, one-half ounce, one-quarter ounce, and one-tenth ounce as well as a four-coin proof set, which contains one coin in each denomination. I believe only 27,000 were minted for 2006 but were not part of the 20th Anniversary sets. The obverse features Augustus Saint-Gaudens' full-length figure of Liberty with flowing hair, holding a torch in her right hand and an olive branch in her left hand. The reverse design, by sculptor Miley Busiek, features a male eagle carrying an olive branch flying above a nest containing a female eagle and her hatchlings. The 2006 American Eagle Four Coin Gold Proof Set is beautifully boxed at the mint and then packaged in a blue velvet, satin-lined presentation case and accompanied by a custom-designed Certificate of Authenticity signed by the Acting Director of the United States Mint. This set has appreciated in demand and value faster than the single coins - over 75% since release. These coins are in their original seals and have never been opened.
