2006 - AMERICAN EAGLE 20TH ANNIVERSARY GOLD AND SILVER COIN SET One Day Sale of this "RARE" Two Coin Set. The American Eagle 20th Anniversary Gold & Silver Set, contains one uncirculated silver eagle and one uncirculated one-ounce gold eagle, both bearing the "W" mint mark. The gold and silver set also has an informative booklet outlining the history of gold and silver in coins throughout history.The American Eagle Gold Coins were first issued in 1986, bear a rendition of internationally renowned sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens' image of Liberty holding a torch and an olive branch aloft. The reverse of the gold American Eagles, by sculptor Miley Busiek, features a male eagle carrying an olive branch flying above a nest containing a female eagle and her hatchlings. The coins are struck at the United States Mint at West Point. __________________ Production of United States Mint American Eagle Silver Proof Coins has been temporarily suspended because of unprecedented demand for American Eagle Silver Bullion Coins. Currently, all available silver bullion blanks are being allocated to the American Eagle Silver Bullion Coin Program, as the United States Mint is required by Public Law 99-61 to produce these coins “in quantities sufficient to meet public demand. Update: Due to the continued, sustained demand for American Eagle Silver Bullion Coins, the American Eagle Silver Proof and Uncirculated (Burnished) Coin will not be produced for year 2009. _______________________________ ________________ AMERICAN EAGLE SILVER COIN HISTORY In 1986, the U.S. Mint started minting the American Eagle silver coin. AMERICAN EAGLE SILVER COIN DESIGNThe obverse (heads) Silver Eagle is based on A.A. Weinman's "Walking Liberty" introduced in 1917 on the silver half-dollar. The reverse (tails) has an eagle and shield, symbolizing American strength and pride. Designed by United States Mint sculptor John Mercanti, it is comprised of a striking heraldic eagle with shield, and olive branch in the right talon and arrows in the left.
