Sky rocketing premiums, volatile spot pricing, Mint rationed deliveries, and very limited supply as it seemed demand was off the charts. Or at least that is something I had said, along with many others. Now with the year 2008 out of the way, and some Mint sales numbers tentatively posted, it seems 2008 shows a mintage of 20.5 + million coins. Kind of a bad number for numismatic purposes, but to put it into perspective, the previous high was in 1987 (the 2nd year of the ASE program) with 11,442,335 coins. So does a 9+ million coin blowout increase over the previous indicate what demand is for Silver Eagles these days?
