This auction is for one 2009 Chinese 1 oz Silver Panda. The coin is brand new in its mint original capsule and contains 1 troy ounce of .999 pure silver. The silver panda coin is the official government silver bullion coin of the People’s Republic of China and has a face value of 10 yuan.
The Chinese Silver Panda series first began production in 1984 and features a different image of the panda every year. The back of the coin depicts the Temple of Heaven, the traditional place of worship for past Chinese emperors. Personally, I feel the 2009 panda image is the most artistic design of the entire series. This coin has already reached its maximum annual mintage limit of 600,000 and is sold out.
This coin is both a great numismatic investment due to its beautiful design and low mintage as well as a great bullion investment due to its silver content. Plus, its a great gift for anyone who enjoys silver coins, likes pandas, or appreciates Chinese culture. Previous years in this series have already appreciated significantly above their original issue price and I would expect this year to do the same, especially given how quickly it sold out at the mint.
