2010 Perth Mint Great Warrior Series Viking 1 oz Silver Proof Coin C omes with a numbered certificate of authenticity, and a presentation display case. The coins are issued as legal tender under the authority of the Government of Tuvalu, a Polynesian Island. All coins in the series weigh 31.135 grams, have a diameter of 40.60 mm, and a thickness of 4.00 mm. Each proof quality coin is 1 oz of 99.9 percent pure silver. Front/Obverse The obverse shows the profile of Queen Elizabeth II designed by artist Raphael Maklouf. Rear/Reverse The reverse shows a Viking warrior gripping an axe in each hand.In battle, Vikings wore iron helmets, which, contrary to popular belief, did not have horns. This viking's helmet and axes features intricate designs. Wealthy Viking warriors could afford chain mail shirts, which were extremely labor-intensive to make.The Perth Mint was founded in 1899 as a branch of Britain's Royal Mint and passed to Australian ownership in 1970. Perth Mint is a well known developer and supplier of precious metal products.
