Up for sale is a rare 1st edition of an IAR (Istanbul Altin Refinery) red certificate .9999 fine one gram gold bar, as pictured in the listing. The total weight for sale is 1 gram of gold. A bit of history from my research .... (1) This certificate is the earliest edition of the certificates used by IAR/IGR. It is a simple cardboard holder, without any plastic coating for protection. (2) The only identifying mark on the reverse is the bar coding strip. It does not contain the LBMA (London Bullion Market Association) certification (that wasn't issued until September 2011), the assayer signature (not added until 2013), or the embossed IAR logo (added later in 2011 and used ever since although its position has changed since the original use). (3) The certificate is not cut out to show the actual reverse of the gold bar. The cut out was added in the 2nd edition of the certificates and has been used ever since. Try as I might, I could not obtain any specific date for when the certificate was actually issued. The best I could determine is that the certificate was issued prior to September 2011, since that was when the LBMA certification was obtained. So I date the certificate as being issued in 2011, but it could be much earlier. The certificate shown in the listing is a the actual certificate for sale. The cardboard certificate read more
