The 2012 Australian Silver 1 oz Koala has a full troy ounce of .999 fine silver. This coin marks another year in the annual release from the Perth Mint. Each one ounce silver Koala is 40.6 mm in diameter and 4 mm in thickness with a legal tender status in Australia with a face value of one dollar. With Ian Rank-Broadley's effigy of Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse, this 2012 Australian Silver Koala is recognized as legal tender. The obverse also lists the country, the Queen's name and the denominational value. The reverse features a changing portrait of the Australian Koala each year. The 2012 design is the face of hairy-eared koala in exquisite detail. A couple of gum tree leaves are shown as well. The reverse proudly says "AUSTRALIAN KOALA" above the koala and the listing of year, weight and purity underneath. With the first release of the silver koala in 2007 the series has risen to the ranks of one of the most recognizable bullion silver coins traded today.
