NEW 2014 Bonhams FERRARI MARANELLO ROSSO Auction Catalog 250 GTO MM SWB Daytona Brand new catalog for the Bonhams auction of ten superb Ferraris from Fabrizio Violati's renowned Maranello Rosso collection, August 14, 2014 in conjunction with the Quail Lodge sale. This special Thursday evening auction was the buzz of the action-packed week leading up to the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance because of the high-profile, high-dollar sale of the first 250 GTO to be offered publicly in a quarter century. CATALOG IS NEW AND HAS NOT BEEN OPENED.Catalog includes 152 pages of fantastic descriptions, detail, and photos--including full-page and two-page images--of just ten exceptional Ferraris, including the 1962 250 GTO Berlinetta s/n 3851. Catalog measures approximately 8.5" x 11" (22 x 28). In beautiful, new condition with minor corner bumps to the covers, as shown, from how they were loaded into the Maranello Rosso tote bag Bonhams provided. Includes a printed list of prices realized.This nearly $66 million auction featured one highlight after another, with the sale of the GTO attracting a tent jam-packed with spectators with the overflow watching on monitors from outside. The speculation amongst observers was at least as hot as the bidding. When it was over, the GTO had become the highest-priced car ever sold at auction, selling for a total of $38.115 million, and surpassing the previous record (also set by Bonhams--at the 2013 Goodwood Festival of Speed sale--by the 1954 Mercedes-Benz W196 R F1 racer that brought $29.65 million).The crowd thinned out dramatically after the sale of the GTO, which was third to cross the block. But there was plenty more interesting action.The 250 MM Berlinetta s/n 0312 MM certainly fits the "interesting action" category. The 250 MM was tailor-made to compete in frontline long-distance races, and this car began its racing history in Calfornia in 1953, with American racer, Bill Devin. At the car's public debut during the SCCA San Francisco Region's annual Madera race meet, Devin took third in the novice event, handing the car over to Phil Hill, who won the day's main event behind the wheel of the new Ferrari. Devin's brother, Gene, also raced the car, and Italy's Count Vittorio di Valguirata co-drove the car in the 1986 and 1987 Mille Miglia Storica events.
